Geoview DP-1
“GeoView doesn’t buy technology. We create technology.”
This is the motto of Geoview Co., Ltd., a marine survey solutions company based in Busan. Established in 2005 by CEO Kim Hyun-do, Geoview was founded with the mission of becoming a technology company, based on Kim’s doctoral thesis on “High-resolution Multi-channel Marine Seismic Survey.” Since its founding, Geoview has continuously developed its technology, and in 2020, it introduced “Geoview No. 1,” the largest domestic marine survey vessel at the time, weighing 121 tons, which helped the company align with global standards.
Recently, with the introduction of the RE100 system, the development of offshore wind farms has been actively promoted worldwide. In South Korea, over 89 offshore wind farm construction projects are planned or underway as part of the “Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan.” According to industry sources, marine surveys for offshore wind farms require highly accurate and precise work, as the raw data collected during surveys is used as the foundational data for constructing offshore structures. To achieve this, high-resolution data must be gathered, which requires deep towing operations that keep the survey equipment close to the seabed and 2DHR (High-resolution) surveys using receivers with 48 or more channels. Among various geophysical survey items required for offshore wind farm construction, 2DHR surveys, which are based on multi-channel surveys, are the most critical. Only a few global marine survey companies and Geoview, the sole provider in South Korea, are capable of performing this. Based on this, positive discussions are currently underway for a potential Japanese project.
