Ulsan, South Korea – On November 5, Ulsan University announced that it has received 180 million KRW in regional industry development funding from GeoView, a marine exploration specialized company. The funds will be used for joint research aimed at developing maintenance technology for floating offshore wind power systems.
The collaboration focuses on the research and development of maintenance solutions based on unmanned underwater drones (ROVs). The project will aim to optimize robotic operating systems and achieve practical research results.
The agreement also involves Equinor’s offshore wind project subsidiary, Banditbul Energy, and Ulsan University Hospital. The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Ulsan University plans to contribute to innovations in marine exploration and maintenance technologies through this partnership.
GeoView is a leading domestic company in the field of physical and geological exploration. In this collaboration, GeoView will leverage its R&D capabilities from the development of unmanned autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) to participate in the research of unmanned underwater drones (ROVs).
Ulsan University President Oh Yeon-Cheon expressed hope that the collaboration would significantly contribute to the growth of regional industries in marine exploration and maintenance, with the results benefiting both student education and the local community.
GeoView CEO Kim Hyun-Do commented, “Through this partnership with Ulsan University, we aim to foster mutual growth with regional industries and lead technological innovation in marine exploration and maintenance.”
