Geoview, considered one of the top companies in the domestic marine exploration field, has unveiled its specialized marine exploration vessel, Geoview DP-1.
Geoview (CEO Kim Hyun-do) held a departure ceremony for the ‘Geoview DP-1’ on the 25th at Busan Port’s Pier 1.
The ceremony was attended by influential figures from both domestic and international wind energy companies, including Equinor, COP, Anma Offshore Wind, KF Wind, Northland Power, Ørsted, Bada Energy, Korea Southern Power, LS Cable & System, Korea National Oil Corporation, and KT Submarine, who expressed their anticipation for the DP-1.
The 1,700-ton DP-1 is equipped with a Niigata 6L28HX@750 RPM main engine with 2×2500 brake horsepower (Bhp).
Measuring 56.41m in length, 16m in width, and 6m in depth, with a deck area of 360㎡ (108.9 pyeong), the vessel can navigate at a speed of about 12 knots (kts). These specifications make the DP-1 the largest domestic private marine survey vessel.
Notably, the vessel is equipped with Dynamic Positioning (DP) technology, which allows the vessel to maintain its position, enabling more accurate marine exploration.
The first project where the DP-1 will be deployed is the ‘Haewool Floating Wind Farm’ project off the coast of Ulsan, currently under development by COP (Denmark).

Meanwhile, Geoview, a local company established in 2005 in Busan, has been focused on technological development and has achieved notable successes, including exporting marine exploration technology to the Philippines in 2019, undertaking the underwater power cable laying project between Wando and Jeju in 2021, and conducting the marine exploration project for Equinor’s “Firefly Floating Wind Farm” in 2022.
Geoview is the first to export marine exploration technology abroad, and it is also the first domestic company to win and complete a marine exploration project commissioned by a foreign company.
Kim Hyun-do, CEO of Geoview, stated, “Geoview aims to be the best, not just the first,” and added, “Based on the best equipment and technology, we will do our best to be a partner for the success of offshore wind developers.”
Frank Rinja, Head of Project Procurement at COP Apac, expressed in his speech, “We expect DP-1 to play a crucial role in performing accurate surveys and analyses,” and added, “The data collected by DP-1 will not only benefit the project that Cip is working on but will also significantly contribute to the entire offshore wind industry in Korea.”
