A Busan-based company has built the largest private marine exploration vessel in the country, set to begin its first operation next month.
Geoview Co., Ltd., headquartered in Saha-gu, Busan, announced on the 26th that it held a departure ceremony for its marine survey vessel, “Geoview DP-1,” on the 25th at a dock near the Busan Port Authority in Jung-gu, Busan.
The marine survey vessel weighs 1,731 tons, with a length of 56 meters, a width of 16 meters, and can accommodate up to 30 people. It is equipped with marine survey equipment, including Norway’s Kongsberg 3000m-class MBES (EM 712) and Germany’s Innomar 5000m-class Parametric SBP (Deep 36).
Geoview DP-1 is set to begin its first mission next month, spending three months working on the “Haewool Floating Wind Farm” project, being conducted by the Danish offshore wind development company COP (Copenhagen Offshore Partners) off the coast of Ulsan.
Geoview explained that excluding research institutions like the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), this is the first time a private company has secured a large vessel for marine surveys in Korea.
Founded in 2005 as a marine survey specialist, Geoview has also completed projects such as the submarine power cable installation project between Wando and Jeju in 2021, and last year, conducted a marine survey for Norway’s state-owned company Equinor for the “Firefly Floating Wind Farm” project off the coast of Ulsan.
Geoview’s Director, Heo Do-yong, stated, “With strong interest in the departure ceremony, including around 10 representatives from domestic offshore wind development companies, we will strive to lead the domestic marine survey market.”
