GeoView announced on April 26 that it held a launch ceremony on April 25 for its specialized marine exploration vessel, GeoView DP 1, at Pier 1 of Busan Port in Jung-gu, Busan. While marine exploration vessels are typically only owned by research institutions like the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), this marks the first time a private South Korean company has launched a large-scale vessel dedicated to marine exploration.

The GeoView DP 1 is set to conduct foundational surveys for offshore wind farm development. Offshore wind energy projects require detailed assessments of seabed topography and other critical data from the construction zones, making marine exploration an essential step. With its strong winds, South Korea is considered highly promising for offshore wind development, offering opportunities for large-scale projects with minimal environmental impact.

GeoView’s role in independently performing marine exploration is also gaining attention. Kim Hyun-do, CEO of GeoView, stated, “With this launch, GeoView now stands shoulder to shoulder with global marine exploration companies, equipped with a large-scale, specialized vessel for marine exploration.”
